Carla Wales Fine and Decorative Art
A painting always invokes a feeling. A scene might capture my attention because of its beauty, its sense of peace, its colors, its own feeling. An orchestrated still life might have been inspired by an appreciation of a moment. Regardless of the initial inspiration, I always put a feeling into the painting, whether it is channeled or it is forced. I value technique and skill and I always strive to improve, but what I really wish to leave for viewers is a feeling, a good feeling. Maybe one might feel peace or love or joy It is my hope that something stirs inside and one has a sense of beyond.

The main body of my fine art work is landscape done in oil. I also paint still lifes and figures. Most landscapes are started in plein air and then finished in the studio. I was trained classically in realism but would say my style is more impressionistic. I have also been playing with abstracting landscapes, always starting from what I see. I am enjoying the process and loving the results. My work hangs in many homes in the US and abroad.

My decorative work is varied and is usually in style with my clients taste. I work with people to find the look they want- from classically elegant to funky and whimsical and everything in between. You can transform a room with a painted finish- create a feeling or a period, you can go from mundane to Wow! I have done extensive work in Fairfield and Westchester counties. My favorite finish is Venetian Plaster as it takes "layers of love" to get the elusive depth and buttery feel it is known for.

One of my patrons once wrote to me: "You have a kind and gentle nature and it emanates in your paintings." This, of course, gave me a great sense of accomplishment!
